Process

The starting point changes from project to project. Some works begin with a clear concept or sketch, while others start with a material, a technique, or a question about how different materials can be brought together.

I work through sketches, prototypes and material tests, moving between glass, ceramics, wood, metal and textiles. Techniques often carry from one material into another, while differences in shrinkage, weight, transparency and structure directly influence how an object is designed and made.

Making allows me to test proportions, understand how materials behave and resolve connections between different parts. Sometimes these tests confirm an initial idea; at other times, they lead to changes in form, construction or material.

This page brings together sketches, tests, prototypes and details from the development of the finished works.
